When You Are Successful But Have An Itch

You've successfully run your business for a decade
But now you've got an itch.

Here's how to reignite your passion
And play for something that aligns with who you are today

Step 1: Reflect on History
- How did you grow to where you are?
- Which clients picked up what you were putting down?
- What value do you bring which no one else in your industry can bring?
- Culturally how have you evolved; what's working / what needs tweaking?

Step 2: Snapshot of Business Today
- like a balance sheet, want a clear one-pager of where you are today
- key clients
- revenue, profitability
- services

Step 3: What's exciting for the next 3-5 years?
- What are you really excited about going forward?
- What services need trimming... boring to you; less profitable
- Socialize ideas with key constituents and solicit / consider others' ideas

Step 4: Trim the Bonsai Tree
- Cut the clutter and noise which doesn't underpin your path forward
- Make space for the new product / service to flourish
- Welcome that scary feeling of "OMG what am I doing cutting these long time branches which no longer tie to my future"

Step 5: Communicate New Vision
- Simply communicate your one page plan for the future to your lieutenants
- Compassionately manage and honor past relationships
- Adjust headcount to align with new vision

Step 6: Delegate the day-to-day
- Granularly assign scope of work one-pagers to each lieutenant to empower them with ownership and direction

Step 7: Be CEO
- Enjoy your day to day
- Help others be great
- Coach, don't fix
